“Captures From Earth” is a series of Google Maps satellite screenshots, marveling at the abstract and painterly quality of topographical terrain. The images range from all over the globe, with significant concentrations in the Middle East, Mexico, and Australia. This series seeks to show how nature is the primary and superior artist. While human intervention also has its hand in some of the images, nature’s influence dwarfs our fleeting efforts. In making these, I was struck by the degree to which our perspective is shaped by what we choose to see. Framing here becomes the artistic medium.
